Welcome to the third-floor master en suite reveal. Or, as we like to call it, the week of the citrus-hued bathsheet. Because if you didn’t have a citrus-hued bathsheet as part of your styling, were you even in The Block?

We’re at the halfway point of the competition and this week provided a bit of drama. El’ise was still sniffy about Andy and Deb winning the prior week’s reveal with their magic gnome point, so she cried a bunch and made them hand back some of their money.

Everyone had a cry, including happy-go-lucky Andy. Seeing him cry just doesn’t seem right. It’s like seeing a dog wearing a skirt and rollerblades.

There was some more Scotty Cam v Mitch and Mark biffo, with the Bondi granddads suggesting all the “party room” comments were aimed at them personally because of their sexuality.

Scotty got huffy and everyone eventually hugged it out.

This week’s room reveal delivered some of the highest scores in Block history. Here’s how it played out.

El’ise and Matt

El’ise and Matt opted for a Venetian wall in their bathroom, which is apparently a big deal because a literal song and dance was made about nobody touching it while it dried. The most important thing was presumably keeping El’ise away from it, lest she splatter it with her tears.

The Very Special Wall was a hit with Darren Palmer, who said, “Aesthetically this is the most exciting bathroom I have seen thus far today”.

The Perth pair made the call to create a smaller master en suite and incorporate a separate powder room (to serve the upstairs terrace so guests don’t have to traipse into the master en suite).

Shaynna Blaze loved the luxe quartz tray on the bench but couldn’t understand why the shaving cabinets weren’t recessed into the wall. She also felt like the bathroom was way too small: “The shower is huge but it’s come at the cost of the other part of the bathroom where the bath is.”

Unfortunately the general consensus was that beauty had been put ahead of the functionality of the room.

Andy and Deb

This bathroom was full of tricks and, frankly, that is what bathrooms have been sorely missing until now. Nifty bloody tricks.

There was a glowing light behind the bath that made it look as if it was a friendly UFO, and for some reason the bath water came out of a hole in the ceiling (triggered by a robot, no less).

The wooden custom vanity was a hit and Darren said: “It’s ambient, it feels really crisp and clean … the shutters are great and the tile choices are great.” Neale Whitaker loved the Turkish rug on the floor that gave it the feel of a hammam.

They felt the styling was “spot on” this week but unfortunately Shaynna thought the smoked mirrors weren’t quite right for doing makeup.

Mitch and Mark

Scotty can’t help but put the steel-capped boot in and is now referring to Mitch and Mark’s penthouse entertaining area as a “fully-fledged function centre”.

This week the boys went off-script again and delivered a kitchen with a small shower/powder room (largely to service the potential swimming pool).

They continued with the Palm Springs vibe, incorporating a bold wallpaper through the lift shaft.

Neale raved about the colour palette and said rejigging the floor plan to incorporate “the Hollywood poolside cabana concept is in-your-face bravery”.

Darren wasn’t a huge fan of the yellow glazed tile in the en suite and the big white frilly mirror, but admitted it worked with the rest of the area.

Shaynna said the neighbours in house two (Luke and Tess) needed to pipe up and ask what Mitch and Mark are planning on doing about acoustics so that they aren’t affected by a noise problem from the party house (a term Mitch and Mark are now embracing, because they’re rad).

Tess and Luke

Tess and Luke won with their main bathroom a couple of weeks ago, so the pressure was on to see if they could come through with the goods again.

Despite pulling that magic lever that makes tradies turn up out of the blue, they still stumbled at the last hurdle, failing to get a window frosted in time.

Despite this stuff-up, Shaynna was impressed with the style and the functionality saying: “Tess and Luke really know how to do bathrooms.”

It was all glowing praise and then Neale piped up and said he had an issue with the rendered feature wall. He found the bulkhead too dark and overpowering, saying it had the effect of closing the room in.

The other thing that surfaced in this week’s episode was the news that Luke really needed to get a haircut.

Jesse and Mel

Boy, oh boy wasn’t there drama this week with Jesse and Mel having to get a massive piece of glass up the stairs. We had repeated heart attacks from the dramatic music while seeing what happens when a huge bit of glass shatters loudly and repeatedly.

The St Kilda couple displayed their rebellious streak twice this episode. Once when they opted for chrome taps despite the judges repeatedly saying they hated them, then again when Mel laughed loudly at one point and we could see she has a tongue piercing (more chrome, she really does love it).

Chrome, marvellous chrome. Photo: Channel Nine

Their bathroom wowed the judges with Shaynna saying the immediate sense of space gave it a feeling of “ultimate luxury”.

Neale said: “Jesse and Mel have achieved the impossible, they’ve actually turned me back on to chrome.” Darren loved the resort feel and the frosted doors that made the toilet feel like a separate powder room. Shaynna said it was “the best layout of any bathroom she has seen today”.

At this stage the $10,000 was there for the taking, but the judges found a few small issues – the lighting layout over the basins was slightly odd and they didn’t love the tapware on the double vanity.

In the end, Mitch and Mark won by half a point much to Jesse and Mel’s chagrin.

In the end the final scores were:

Mitch and Mark – 29

Tess and Luke – 27.5

Andy and Deb – 28.5

El’ise and Matt – 26

Jesse and Mel – 28.5

Next week we can look forward to the kitchen reveals … and probably some kitchen-related puns about “tensions boiling over”. Can’t wait to see Scotty execute that champagne comedy.
