As the five Block houses at the Oslo head towards auction, one is streets ahead of the competition when it comes to popularity.
House 1 by Mitch and Mark has had more than 190,000 listing views on Domain since going live in early September, recent data shows.
The runner-up by a large margin is Tess and Luke’s property with 55,000 fewer views than the frontrunner.
It was a tight race between the remaining houses, which recorded similar listing views. El’se and Matt’s residence had the least, at 103,000.
Mitch and Mark’s keen eye for design has served them well throughout the series, including nabbing the Domain magazine cover last weekend.
The pair also have the most-seen listing on Facebook. Again, Tess and Luke came second, by a margin of about 15,000 views.
There was a wide gap between the listings on Facebook – the leading property scored close to 24,350 more views than El’ise and Matt’s terrace.
For selling agent Graeme Wilson of Wilson Port Phillip, playing the long game has been key to Mitch and Mark’s success.
“They didn’t [strategise] to win the room-by-room reveals,” Mr Wilson said. “They’ve [considered] the overall feeling of the house and the total concept.
“They’re always a day or two ahead of everyone else.”
Mr Wilson said the pair started their planning as early as possible, having studied the online plans for House 1 through council when they applied to join the show.
He noted a positive attitude at open inspections, saying that Mitch and Mark had emerged as a crowd favourite.
“When they had the public day, they were so well received it was like they [had] rockstar status,” Mr Wilson said.
He said the campaign had been performing well, with most attention coming from owner-occupiers – including a professional couple and a family – as well as some investor interest.
Mr Wilson said House 1 was in line with premium properties in the area, as reflected in the $3 million to $3.3 million price guide.
He said the rarity of large terrace houses in the district, especially those with brand new fittings and finishes, would likely spur demand, but said the versatility of Mitch and Mark’s residence set it apart.
The large upper-level entertaining area was, for Mr Wilson, a particular standout, featuring its own kitchen, bathroom and lift access.
“They can certainly use it as a party room and the concept of having that living area upstairs is fabulous. But … for in-law accommodation, it could be used as a bedroom or self-contained area,” he said.
“I think it has a slightly higher elevation than the others so it gets a better view.”
Mitch and Mark’s attention to detail is also thought to have played a role – House 1 features a gas log fire, wine storage, a chef’s kitchen, keyless entry, and a luxe main bedroom.
Mitch and Mark’s popularity bodes well for the pair, but it may not mean a win on auction day. Last year, even though Kerrie and Spence’s listing saw the most traffic, Hayden and Sara ultimately took out the competition. The duo were the lowest-scoring winners in the show’s history.
