The Block auctions are less than a week away, with the five houses at New Street, Brighton attracting hundreds of thousands of online listing views – but which one has had the most?
With an impressive 194,129 views so far, Harry and Tash’s House 1 has proven most popular with online listing viewers since going live in late September, recent data shows.
Jimmy and Tam’s House 5 came in second, with 160,287 views. This means the multi room-winning house clocked about 30,000 hits fewer than House 1.
House 2 by Sarah and George took third spot with 122,259 views, while Luke and Jasmin’s House 4 and Daniel and Jade’s House 3 followed with 115,127 and 114,684 views respectively.
Though Harry and Tash have not often been favourites with the judges, many times taking the wooden spoon on room reveal day, one of their agents, Lana Samuels from Whitefox Real Estate, said the father-and-daughter team have created a house for the Melbourne lifestyle.
“They’re Melbourne contestants for the Melbourne buyer,” Ms Samuels said. “They know how we live here.”
She said many of the house’s unique features were appealing to potential buyers, including its large kitchen, dining and living space, the fact that it’s on the end – neighbouring a heritage brick mansion – has an existing old oak tree on the property, and boasts an all-important north-facing aspect.
“They have utilised that natural light beautifully and kept the colour palette sleek and clean,” Ms Samuels said.
Harry and Tash were fortunate to get House 1 after they lost the initial beach box challenge and had the last pick of the lot. Somehow, none of the other contestants snapped up the only north-facing house on The Block.
Ms Samuels said not only was the aspect a selling point, but the fact that the house was at the end gave it extra parking space from the laneway. It is also the only house where the garage has direct access inside.
“If you’ve got kids with a pram or the shopping, you don’t have to run through the rain to get to the house,” she said.
What’s more, at number 364, it’s the only house with a standalone address – the others all having “A” or “B” after the number – making it even more appealing to buyers, Ms Samuels said.
Prospective buyers had been “extremely positive” when walking through the home, many saying they would only consider buying House 1, she said.
“A lot of people are blown away with how beautiful it is in person.”
Last year’s most viewed property was Mitch and Mark’s, a favourite with the judges, but ultimately not the winner come auction day, when underdogs Tess and Luke took out the win.
