The winning house from last year’s series of reality renovation TV show The Block is still for sale, more than two months after its original buyer failed to settle.

Rumours swirled earlier this year that a white knight had swooped in to buy Jimmy and Tam’s 1950s-style home, but no claim has been lodged on the title and the home is still available.

Potential buyers have been touring the stylish Palm Springs-inspired residence, which features five bedrooms, a pool, barbecue, Gaggenau kitchen appliances and double garage.

It comes as the Melbourne property market has been rising strongly this year so far, with a February auction clearance rate of 75.3 per cent, the highest since April 2017.

“House 5 is currently for sale off market through McGrath estate agents, who originally had the listing,” The Block executive producer and co-creator Julian Cress said in a statement to Domain.

“Potential buyers and some buyers advocates have been taken through the home.

“At this stage, we are in no rush to sell the property as it continues to go up in value by the week.”

A Nine spokesman declined to comment on whether Jimmy and Tam have received their prizemoney yet. Nine is the majority owner of Domain.

McGrath St Kilda principal Michael Townsend confirmed the home was for sale.

“It’s available, it hasn’t sold,” he said.

“It’s not going to be on the market publicly — more off-market.”

The stylish residence fetched $4,256,000 at auction in November, an eye-watering $966,000 above its reserve price to win the contest and the $100,000 winners’ cheque for its team.

But, it was again offered to the market before Christmas when the buyer failed to settle, with the show’s stars and producer reacting with dismay.

Under-bidder Danny Wallis was seen as a potential buyer but he already bought three other Block houses on auction day, spending $11.8 million.

Greville Pabst, one of the buyer’s agents on the show, had buyers interested since the auction and has done a few inspections since.

“At this point in time, we don’t have any interest at the level of value that was previously achieved,” he said.

Buyer’s agent Nicole Jacobs of the eponymous agency, who also works on the show, had buyers interested straight after the season but at about the $3.5 million level.

The eventual buyer will own a slice of one of Melbourne’s most chic suburbs, with neighbouring properties recently listed for rent for as much as $2700 a week.
