The Winners Are Grinners dinners have always been a chance for the teams to put aside any differences and simply share a meal together. (Well, that’s if everyone shows up of course.)
For the very last catch-up, a Thai takeaway feast, everyone did show up and things even took a turn towards the sentimental. The group got reflective as they looked back on their huge season and realised what a bond they had forged.
“It’s been awesome meeting you guys,” Ronnie expressed. “It’s been a hell of a ride.”
“Look at what we’ve created, it’s amazing,” Luke reflected. “The memories, the hard times, the good times … It’s something we’ll never forget.”
“I feel like there’s a bit of love in the air,” Tanya admitted. “It’s the week that everybody bands together and says, ‘bygones be bygones’.”
That is … until Scott Cam made a huge revelation. All Stars Ronnie and Georgia were the likely winners of the Domain Super Power Leaderboard challenge, meaning they would be the ones to determine who went where in the all-important Auction order.
“We’re all after the same goal, the same vision,” Vito said firmly. “We all want a great result.”
It’s certainly something every team is hoping Ronnie and Georgia agree with. And after so many weeks of watching the savvy couple, the teams have learned something about them. Ronnie and Georgia are smart — and strategic. As a result, everyone felt confident that they would select an order that would lead to maximum results.
Whether that meant “maximum results” for everyone, however, is another matter.
“Ronnie and Georgia hold the power,” Mitch said sagely.
Jesse and Kirsty mused they may be put first in a strategic move, and Tanya and Vito confessed they trusted Ronnie and Georgia to make the right call.
“It’s in good hands,” Vito said.
“We’re happy for them to pick the auction order,” Luke agreed. “I don’t think they’re going to make it personal — it’s purely tactical what they want to do with it, and they need to make the right decision.”
Mitch and Mark were more wary. “Probably everyone wants to be second or third [when it comes to the auction order],” Mark said, explaining the first house set a tone and then a competitive edge would typically kick in when it came to bidding.
“You certainly don’t want to be last,” he added.
Ronnie and Georgia have guaranteed that’s not a place they’ll be (at least when it comes to the order). They have given it everything they’ve got to earn the right to select the overall line up.
“They deserved it,” Luke said. “Ronnie and Georgia are two of the greatest Block contestants of all time.”
At the start of the build, every team was told that they could win points that would go towards an Auction Leaderboard. Five wins over the season led to the Western Australian couple streaking ahead — a lead that unless they stopped work and everyone else got perfect scores, was now out of the other teams’ reach.
“That was always a priority for us,” Georgia said of the ‘superpower’, revealing it was motivation for their consistent hard work.
As a result, they not only choose the auction order, but also score themselves the all-important cover of Domain magazine, which has historically proven to be a major marketing bonus.
The two know just how vital that power is, having been on the receiving end of an order they didn’t want in their last season.
“I think it bit us in the butt,” Georgia said. “We understand the importance of auction order.”
This time around, they will be able to control the action… but will they choose correctly? We’ll soon find out.
