This week the Block stars were tasked with the Domain Property Listings challenge.
They were in charge of writing the copy, getting photos and producing a high quality video to help sell their house to go with their Domain listing.
Teams then had to present their listing, including a brief spiel about their house, at a cocktail event. Their agents and a panel of property expert judges, including Alice Stolz from Domain, were present, along with some very familiar faces.
Buyers’ advocates Nicole Jacobs, Frank Valentic and Greville Pabst were also there, getting a closer look at the five homes.
The big prize on offer for the challenge was $10,000 and 3 bonus points for the Domain Super Power Leader board.
Whoever sits at the top of the leader board when houses are complete will be given the power to decide the all-important auction order.
Here’s a look at what each team presented:
The team came well prepared, identifying their potential buyers as “families of all types”, and showcased the sophisticated colour palette of their home.
Watching on, Luke noticed that while their presentation was good, it just went on and on.
“I was getting bored,” Tanya said. “But I find it hard to focus and pay attention to anything, really.”
Ronnie and Georgia’s real estate video centred around them getting date-night ready. She had a luxurious bath, got ready in the spacious en suite and applied makeup. The couple then toasted while watching a movie in their home cinema.
“They’ve obviously got a very sophisticated renovation style and I think it’ll appeal to a lot of my family buyers,” buyers’ advocate Frank said.
The grandads did their research and designed their house accordingly. The attention to detail didn’t go unnoticed by the judges.
The team’s video focused on highlighting their house’s key features, seeking to put the house and what it offers at the forefront of a potential buyer’s mind.
“I really love the flexibility of their floor plan,” buyers’ advocate Greville said.
Tanya and Vito had a few nerves when it came to their presentation. They decided to keep things short and sweet while showing off their property which “is definitely not a cookie-cutter home”.
Their unique video had a 1960s feel as they showed off the house’s key features and mid-century style.
“Their video was funny. Kind of stupid but funny, and their presentation was erh,” Mitch said.
Buyers’ advocate Nicole did have a concern that they were the only home with three bedrooms this year, with the neighbours all having four.
As their parents are long-time real estate agents, Josh and Luke felt added pressure, and their nerves noticeably kicked in when it came time for their presentation.
The twins had a highly creative and somewhat dramatic video which focused on the their journey to create the house.
“This one meant a lot to us because it was a purely real estate focused challenge and I’ve got that relationship with Dad,” Luke said.
“I worked with him for about a year-and-a-half in real estate and he’s been in real estate forever. So we definitely want to win this one.”
Kirsty took the lead in presenting the pitch for House 5, with Jesse taking on the role of “clicker” for the video.
Kirsty made sure to draw attention to the team’s unique features, with the house set on a large block, and the fact it is the only two-storey home this year.
They played a star-studded listings video, with cameos from tenor and composer David Hobson, INXS legend Andrew Farriss and singer-songwriter Dami Im. They balanced showing their beautiful house with star-power for an incredible result.
Then it came time for judging. Mitch made it clear he didn’t think Tanya and Vito or Josh and Luke were any competition for them.
First were Ronnie and Georgia. Alice said, “I think you had style and substance and I love the idea of you selling a dream and living the dream, 9.5.”
House 1 scored a total of 27.5/30 from the judges which was a very high score to beat from the outset.
Mitch and Mark were up next and scored 24.5/30 from the judges.
The sense of joy and fun in House 3, along with featuring the architecture of the home, scored Tanya and Vito 22.5/30.
Alice thought the twins delivered a “slick, energetic and really fun” presentation with a video that was very different to the rest. But overall Josh and Luke scored 24/30 from the judges.
Kirsty and Jesse were the last team with a shot at taking the win. “I think it’s pretty hard to go wrong with celebrity friends, and I love that you made a whole content piece in that package,” Alice commended. But in the end they got 27/30. While it was high, it wasn’t enough to snap up the win.
With a top score of 27.5, Ronnie and Georgia nabbed another win and those very crucial points for the Domain Super Power Leader board.
“For us, the most important thing is that points tally, and that was our big motivation this week because we know historically, choosing auction order is massive,” Georgia said after the win.
But Kirsty also summed it up pretty well: “Ronnie and Georgia are unstoppable now, I think.”
Scotty also gave the couple a bit of parting advice as the challenge wrapped up: “Keep your enemies close.”
