Mark your calendars! The premiere date for the new season of The Block has been announced and we don’t have long to wait.
The Block: Tree Change will premiere Sunday August 7 at 7pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.
That also means it’s time to meet the new contestants heading to Gisborne, Victoria to renovate five family homes.
Here’s everything you need to know about the teams competing on the biggest season of The Block ever.
This married couple might not have any experience on a construction site, but Sharon is no stranger to country life having grown up on a farm in South Australia.
Ankur is an accountant while Sharon is a lawyer and actor, who may be familiar to some viewers for her role as Dipi Rebecchi on Neighbours.
Proud Australians of Indian heritage, they want to be positive role models for their community on this series.
While they are very nervous about what The Block has in store for them they plan to give the challenge everything they’ve got.
“We are stressing bullets,” Sharon said. “But hard work we are not scared of.”
When it comes to renovating this engaged couple have experience in spades.
Dylan is a builder while Jenny is an apprentice carpenter – the first ever female tradie contestant on The Block. Together the pair have started their own building company called Smooth Sailing Designs.
“When I tell people I am doing my apprenticeship they always say you don’t build, you don’t do anything. But I do – I do everything,” Jenny said.
They were actually busy building their own home when they got the call to be on The Block.
Engaged couple Joel and Elle will be familiar faces to some viewers.
Joel is a former AFL player who played more than 200 games for the Brisbane Lions and Greater Western Sydney Giants. Elle, meanwhile, is a social media influencer with more than 700,000 followers.
They might not be known for it, but this pair actually have a bit of experience under their tool belts.
Joel has a background in building and renovated two houses in Brisbane, while Elle has a diploma in interior design.
The couple were inspired to apply for The Block after watching it during the 2021 lockdown.
“Lockdown was hard, and in all honesty The Block got us through it,” Elle said. “It was on four nights a week and I think we really did say, ‘We could do it and it would be fun’.”
Best friends Omar and Oz are family men from Western Sydney, who are looking forward to being role models for young Muslim Australians.
The pair will be observing Ramadan during the first few weeks of The Block.
“We are Muslim and I am Lebanese, but I am Australian Lebanese,” Oz said. “I’m a proud Australian and I want to show what two Muslim Aussies can do.”
Oz is a Block superfan and father of three boys, who works as a building maintenance manager.
Omar, meanwhile, is a former NRL player and father of two boys.
Married couple Tom and Sarah-Jane are going on The Block to give their one-year-old daughter Cleo a better future.
Tom is a plumber, who loves working so much he could do it all day every day.
“I could work 24 hours a day, I love it,” he said. “So that part of The Block is not going to bother me, I’m going to relish it.”
Sarah-Jane is a social-worker with a bright and bubbly personality, who isn’t worried about a lack of experience as an interior stylist.
“People always say that I’m so loud,” she says. “Yes, I’m a lot, and some people don’t like it, but I’m harmless. I just like to have a laugh and a good time.”
