Ankur and Sharon are in some serious trouble. After Scott Cam broke the news that they are $53k in debt, he had no other choice but to cut the pair off financially.

“I’ve already cancelled your Suncorp cards, you don’t make any decisions with trades, purchases or anything unless it comes through me, in fact I’ll make all those decisions,” Scott tells the pair.

“You got no more money.”

It’s a lot to take in for Ankur and Sharon. They also face the reality that they might not deliver their landscaping or their remaining rooms.

Sharon asks what she’s supposed to do with their extra room and Scott has a blunt response.

“That is not my problem Sharon,” he says.

Scott tells them they’ll have to deliver a basic room with plastered walls, a single downlight and a power point.

And as part of his budget measures, Scott’s first order of business is to send House 3’s tradies home.

As always Shelley Craft finds the silver lining and reminds them the last couple who had their budget cut off – Tess and Luke in 2019 – actually won their season.

But Scott says Ankur and Sharon “are in a worse position than Tess and Luke were”.

Sharon is understandably shattered by the news of their financial cut off.

“I knew we were in the s–t with the budget, but I was blindsided with the action that was taken and how swift and harsh it was.”

Bad news travels fast on The Block. Photo: Nine

Overwhelmed by it all Ankur and Sharon say they “just want to leave”.

“You’re angry, you’re defeated, you’re all of the emotions,” Ankur later tells cameras.

Word about the budget shut down quickly makes its way around The Block as the rumours swirl.

Rachel thought it was “going to be the boys” in House 5 that got cut off but Sarah-Jane confirms it’s House 3. She says she “heard that they were $80k in the red”, while Tom heard “it was like 20 grand” and Omar and Oz say “it’s closer to $100k”.

“I do genuinely feel for them because that would be horrifying,” Sarah-Jane says.

After hours of discussion between Ankur and Sharon and just about everyone else on site, the couple decide to stay and finish “as best as they can”.

“If it can be done, we will try and stick it out and do it,” they say.

And with that decision made the teams head to Block HQ to hear Scott read out their feedback and scores.

“Nothing says family home like a nursery,” Shaynna Blaze beams in Tom and Sarah-Jane’s guest bedroom.

Shaynna loves how the architectural details of the room match the rest of the home, and appreciates all the adorable styling details.

“It’s got the eye for detail, that precision and that consistency that’s come to be Tom and Sarah-Jane’s trademark,” Neale Whitaker says.

The judges commended the room for its functionality, noting it could be converted into a room for anyone of any age.

They also couldn’t help but swoon over Tom and Sarah-Jane’s magnolia wallpaper print on their ceiling calling it “wonderful”.

But if there’s one criticism the judges have for Tom and Sarah-Jane’s nursery it’s their wall colour.

“I would’ve preferred a different green on the wall,” Shaynna says.

Darren Palmer thinks the spearmint colour is a little “jarring” for the space.

Rachel and Ryan present a kids’ room inspired by their own children.

Shaynna loves the whimsical wallpaper design of trees and constellations and calls it her “favourite wallpaper of this season”.

She becomes emotional as she discovers that the artists behind the drawings in the room are Rachel and Ryan’s children.

The judges are quickly distracted by all the Play-doh in the room which transports them back to their own childhood.

“This is a really beautiful kids’ room and it tells the story,” Neale says.

Shaynna is “in love” with the light blue hue of their wardrobe but thinks they could’ve at least put a cushion in the room to match the colour.

The judges are disappointed to not find a lamp or a power point by the bunk beds, but overall are “impressed” by the space.

Darren warns Neale and Shaynna to “mind that wet paint” on the door.

Apart from that, he actually thinks it’s the “best painted room that Ankur and Sharon have ever had”.

The judges feel the room is “sweet”, “cosy” and “warm”.

Neale says they have “nailed” the room even though the style is very different compared to the rooms they’ve delivered so far.

“It’s noticeably classic compared to the rest of the house which should we say, is kind of eccentric,” Neale adds.

Nevertheless, the room is “beautifully executed”.

Darren can’t stop himself from applauding almost all of Ankur and Sharon’s choices – from the colour palette and the light sconces to the wainscoting and the skirting boards.

It is a room that the judges “could feel the love” in.

“This feels like a wonderland,” Shaynna says walking into Dylan and Jenny’s kids’ room.

The Grafico wallpaper – which Jenny helped design – was a hit with the judges who try to spot all the animals in the artwork.

This week, Dylan and Jenny made the decision to move the window to a different wall of the room. And their clever planning doesn’t go unnoticed.

“The way that the outlook from that window blends in with that beautiful mural, it’s very special,” Neale says.

Shaynna loves Dylan and Jenny’s bunny lamp so much that she wants to take it home with her.

“I’m in love, it’s heaven,” she says.

“It definitely sells the family, luxury country dream to me,” Darren adds.

Omar and Oz are the only team this week that choose to present a living area instead of a guest bedroom.

But the judges quickly label the decision a “mistake”.

“The only thing is it can’t be adapted to a bedroom in the future if you want to,” Shaynna notes.

For Neale the room lacks purpose and doesn’t even feel like the second living space it’s supposed to be.

“This is really only a room in which you can come and watch a movie.”

Neale is also “confused” by the styling of the room, especially all the “strange” bunnies floating around.

“That bunny is staring at me, it’s giving me the evil eye,” Neale says pointing out the big toy in the corner.

Guest Bedroom Week scores

  • Tom and Sarah-Jane: 27.5
  • Rachel and Ryan: 28.5
  • Ankur and Sharon: 26.5
  • Dylan and Jenny: 29
  • Omar and Oz: 21

After being pipped at the post most of the season, Dylan and Jenny nab their second win in a row. They bag $10,000 and an additional $5,000 because they scored a 10 from Neale.

Jenny is so chuffed she runs to give Scotty a hug.

The good news keeps coming because the teams are doing another guest bedroom.

However Scott quickly reveals its not the Blockheads’ only project for the week, they also have their redo rooms to tackle. But that’s next week’s problem!
