Rachel and Ryan are still on a high after winning the Domain Listing Challenge.

Although the walk throughs are over and the results are in, Danny Wallis is still hanging around the next morning.

And all of the Blockheads are vying for a piece of his attention (or rather of his very deep pockets).

While the contestants all chat to Danny, Rachel feels “there was a little bit of shade” from Sharon in regards to the vineyard she and Ryan are installing on their property.

“She started talking about her father owns 300 acres of vines and how hard it is and her hands used to get all torn up from having to prune the grapes,” Rachel recalls.

  • The Block 2022 listings are now live, and updated weekly. See them here.

Sharon says she “was 100 per cent thinking of putting in vineyards.

“But I know the reality of that because my dad’s a winegrower, it doesn’t work that easily, it is hard work.”

But Rachel doesn’t let Sharon’s doubts about her vineyard weigh her down. She quickly informs her and Danny that she is setting up contracts to have the vineyard managed.

“You don’t have to do anything if you don’t want,” Rachel says.

That revelation piques Danny’s interest in Rachel and Ryan’s property.

Rachel says that Sharon’s comments “backfired”.

“Why would you even do that? We’re so close to finishing, just worry about yourself,” Ryan later wonders.

They’re not the only Blockheads having awkward conversations.

Omar and Oz are having a difficult chat with their builder Danny after Scott Cam raised concerns about their budget.

“We don’t want our trades walking away thinking they did all this work and didn’t get paid well for it,” Omar explains.

But the besties also fear they may reach a stage where they have to tell their trades they have no money to pay them.

It’s a tough balancing act, so Omar and Oz try to negotiate Danny’s price down.

But Danny feels like he’s already sacrificed enough.

“Quite frankly bro it’s getting hard for me,” Danny says.

The chat fails to result in any alleviation of their budget concerns leaving Omar and Oz worrying about their tight budget.

With the teams rounding up their 10th week of The Block, they all feel like they’ve finally figured out how to manage their time and finish their rooms well before ‘tools down’.

That is, everyone except for Ankur and Sharon, who still have “a lot to do”.

“It is painting, it is styling, it is cleaning, we just don’t have time so stop,” Ankur says.

Without a minute to spare, Ankur and Sharon deliver a finished room and along with the other teams, head to Block HQ to hear Scott read out their feedback and scores.

Tom and Sarah-Jane choose to use tartan wallpaper again in their guest bedroom.

And the judges love it just as much the second time around.

Darren Palmer says “if it works for one bedroom, it works in another”.

Neale Whitaker applauds the couple for their ability to make materials that don’t usually go together work.

He suggests the couple should go into designing hotel rooms because they’re so good at “designing rooms to be different but still so well-connected.

Neale even likens the room to the work of British interior designer Kit Kemp.

Adding more seating and rugs had improved their living area. Photo: Nine

Tom and Sarah-Jane’s redo room was their living room. Walking in, Neale feels the room “now plays to the strength of its size”.

Neale also says the addition of more rugs and seating makes the room “feel more complete” and “cohesive”.

“Now it feels like a home,” Neale adds.

The judges think everything Tom and Sarah-Jane fixed in their redo room is “just right” and adds value to their home.

Darren feels everything about Rachel and Ryan’s guest bedroom is “spot on”.

“There’s a beautiful warm palette going on in here that totally tones in with the landscape outside the window,” Neale says.

He adds that this is a room he’d be happy to unpack his own bags in and hop into bed.

“It just feels cosy,” Neale adds.

While the judges note that the shelf in the room is a little too high, overall they feel like Rachel and Ryan have found their groove.

One of the biggest issues in Rachel and Ryan’s redo guest bedroom was the colour of their feature wall.

Shaynna and Darren are pleased that Rachel and Ryan have changed the wall colour in the redo room. Photo: Nine

Darren was chuffed to see they’d changed the colour, but Neale wasn’t sure.

“I don’t dislike this, but for me it’s a change, but not a change for the better,” Neale said.

Shaynna Blaze can’t disagree more.

“I adore it.”

Darren says the room is “nice” but maybe “if you were a 10-year-old that liked pretty things”.

But elements in the room such as wine glasses and love seats make it clear to Shaynna that this is not supposed to be a child’s room.

She also adds that Ankur and Sharon’s room is an example of “how not to put pattern together”.

The judges aren't fans of Sharon and Ankur's guest bedroom. Photo: Nine

“It’s way off the mark. It doesn’t feel luxe,” Neale says.

He also thinks some of the styling makes the space feel “cheap”.

Over in Ankur and Sharon’s redo living and dining room, the judges’ mood massively improves.

But are much happier when they see their redo room. Photo: Nine

Darren thinks the addition of a large mirror in their living room “is so much better than a wallpaper”.

Despite the room being a massive improvement, Shaynna “can still feel the desperation for some styling.

“It’s obvious they don’t have the money to finish it.”

There is one word on all the judges lips when entering Dylan and Jenny’s guest bedroom – “sweet”.

Shaynna loves how the couple have used texture in the room, especially the fluted panelling on the wall.

“I keep seeing things that I haven’t seen before,” Neale says.

“It’s absolutely beautiful.”

The only jarring element in the room is the artwork on the wall, which the judges feel is “too bright” for the room’s “subtle” colour palette.

Dylan and Jenny’s redo living and dining room is “very different” and the judges are happy to see it.

“It was all wrong and now it’s all right,” Darren says.

“Great palette, I love this touch of this sage, olive colour,” Darren notes.

He feels the colour palette perfectly connects the kitchen and living space.

“This room now works with the rest of the house,” the judges say.

According to Neale, stepping into Omar and Oz’s guest bedroom feels like stepping inside a Japanese ski lodge.

He adds that the room is “very fresh” and “very contemporary”.

“It’s a really nice combination of colours, textures and finishes.”

Although Darren says the boys’ finesse stops short at the bookshelf, which they oddly styled with objects in a straight line.

Overall he feels the room is “very well designed architecturally”.

“It’s just design tick after design tick.”

And the good news keeps coming when the judges look into Omar and Oz’s redo room – the master bedroom.

The judges are delighted to see the bedrooms have a similar colour palette and feel.

“They have a sort of shared DNA now, which is very clever,” Neale says.

Although Neale still wishes the boys had gotten rid of some of the fretwork which he feels are an obstruction to the wardrobe doors.

This is usually the bit where Scotty reveals the scores, but there’s still one matter of business to sort out.

Tom and Sarah-Jane have a Bonus Point Gnome up their sleeve, and with their score currently tied with Rachel and Ryan’s, now is probably a good time to use it.

But the couple decide to save the Gnome for Landscaping Week when the Ford Ranger is up for grabs.

Guest Bedroom and Redo Room Week scores

  • Tom and Sarah-Jane: 28
  • Rachel and Ryan: 28
  • Ankur and Sharon: 23.5
  • Dylan and Jenny: 27.5
  • Omar and Oz: 25

Tom and Sarah-Jane and Rachel and Ryan win with the first tie of the season.

And while the couples will split the $10,000 cash, they can’t split the mature tree prize, so that will have to go to a coin toss.

Scotty announces that next week the teams will be renovating the work from home space in the exterior shed.

He gives the Blockheads what he thinks is a very generous budget of $25,000.

But they’re not so impressed. Omar and Oz think “it’s not enough” and there’s mostly crickets from the other teams.

“You gotta dig in deeper Scotty,” Oz says.
