Tom and Sarah-Jane have a big decision to make this week with the power to choose the order teams’ houses will go under the hammer at The Block 2022 auctions.

The couple won the advantage after topping the Domain Superpower Leaderboard with the highest total Room Reveal scores this season.

But while auction order has played an important role in the amount of profit contestants have made at past Block auctions, Tom doesn’t feel any pressure to set the best order for all teams.

“At the end of the day it’s a game, and we’ve got to look after ourselves so we’ll just see what our agents recommend closer to the auction and just run it that way,” Tom exclusively told 9Entertainment.

Tom and Sarah-Jane hadn’t decided on their auction order at the time of their interview because they’re waiting to find out what the reserves are before making their final decision.

Once they know what the reserves are, they’ll speak to their real estate agents for advice on the order that will give them the best chance at making money on auction day.

“There’s 20 different ways you could do it and there’s no right or wrong way. It all just comes down to hopefully putting yourself in the best possible position, and hopefully a couple of people fighting over your house, so that’s all you can do,” Tom explained.

However the couple have paid attention to past Block auctions and know the teams that have gone second have ended up winning their season.

They also know the team that has gone third has often made quite good money, so that will factor into their auction order.

This was the case in 2021 when Mitch and Mark went second and won the auction with $644,444.44 profit, while Tanya and Vito went third and earned $400,000.01 profit. Meanwhile, Ronnie and Georgia, one of the favourites to win, went first and walked away with $296,000 profit.

“We’re going to either go second or third in the auction order – that won’t change,” Sarah-Jane revealed.

Whatever order they end up deciding, Tom and Sarah-Jane will be making sure they use the superpower to play the game hard at auctions despite the close friendships they’ve made, especially with Rachel and Ryan.

“We’ll do our best to keep them in mind, but at the same time if our agents for some reason say, ‘They’re your biggest threat, you’ve got to put them in this position’, we’ll go with that too,” Tom admitted.

“It’s a game and we know our friendships are genuine with Rachel and Ryan and Dylan and Jenny… [and] they know it’s a game.”

Tom and Sarah-Jane will reveal their auction order in the Grand Finale Auction episode of The Block on Sunday.
