The Block will be back in 2022: Here’s everything we know so far

April 27, 2022

It wasn’t too long ago that we were watching the rollercoaster season that was The Block 2021 Fans v Faves, in which Mitch and Mark were crowned winners and took home over $700,000 in prize money.

For those keen Blockaholics who can’t get enough, you’ll be happy to hear filming has now started on what will be the 18th season of the hugely successful renovation show, airing on Nine.

Here’s what we know so far about the latest season:

Just like many Aussies have done over the past two years, The Block crew, hosts, judges and new contestants have packed up and headed to the country.

Filming is now underway in Gisborne, in Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, about 54 kilometres from Melbourne’s CBD. The regional location is a first for the show, which in past seasons has been filmed in Melbourne suburbs such as Hampton, Elsternwick, St Kilda and Brighton, as well as in Sydney’s Bondi, Manly and Vaucluse.

Get set to see some familiar faces

The new contestants are donning their hard hats and high-vis, and there are some names that you might already know.

According to The Blockinator blog, former Neighbours star Sharon Johal and her husband Ankur Dogra are set to be one of five teams competing for auction glory.

Another high-profile couple who were confirmed contestants have already left the show after only three days on site. As reported by Nine, influencer Elle Ferguson and her ex-AFL partner Joel Patfull have had to leave due to family illness. Their replacement is yet to be revealed.

The other contestants are yet to be officially announced, but no doubt they’re diehard Block fans.

It’s not the first time the program has opted to cast celebrity teammates. Last year saw Love Island’s twin brothers Josh and Luke appear, season 13 featured model Elyse Knowles and her carpenter partner Josh Barker, and in 2014 ex-Collingwood footballer Darren Jolly and his then-wife Deanne competed.

In another first for the show, host and former carpenter Scotty Cam will show us what he’s got as he tackles a mammoth renovation on his own house, alongside the other contestants.

It’s being touted as “the biggest Block ever”, with each team transforming properties on four hectares of land.

The judges are back

It looks like some other unforgettable faces – long-time judges Neale Whitaker, Shaynna Blaze and Darren Palmer – are back on site, too, with Palmer recently posting a snap to his Instagram account with a cryptic caption, hinting that the three were together in Gisborne.

Last year’s winners Mitch and Mark were very vocal when it came time for judges’ feedback and often disagreed with the remarks that were given on their rooms.

Only time will tell how the judges feel about the rooms that are presented this year, and we can’t wait to see.

The Block Tree Change is set to air later this year.
