Good news for fans of the recent Oscar-nominated film Call Me By Your Name  the historic villa featured as the home of the lovelorn protagonist, Elio, and his academic parents is for sale.

The 14-room, 14,000-square-metre villa dates back to the 1500s, and is on two hectares of land in Lombardy in Italy’s north.

Director Luca Guadagnino had known about, and been an admirer of, the property for years but couldn’t afford to buy it. He told Architectural Digest he knew it was the perfect place to set the film, which was adapted from the novel by James Ivory, of Merchant Ivory fame.

“I knew where I was going to set the action of the film,” he said. “This place with faded, aristocratic charm, that a professor and his wife might have inherited but can’t quite keep up.”

The house was prepared for filming over a month. The interiors were created for the film by Violante Visconti di Modrone, the daughter of an Italian duke, using her own furniture as well as rented items.

And how much will this historically-protected home with its frescoed ceilings, carved doors and massive fireplaces set you back? It’s listed for €1.7 million ($2.67 million) through House & Loft

Not bad – and aside from bragging rights, it’ll give you the chance to eat your meals alfresco in an arty, bohemic shambles while listening to Sufjan Stevens and the Psychedelic Furs.
