The Gold Coast is known for its glitz and glamour but that doesn’t mean you can’t find affordable properties, whether you need somewhere to holiday or to live.

Location is king on the glitter strip of Surfers Paradise and the other beachside spots. But there’s plenty more out there a little further in from the beach too, if you’re looking for a bargain.

4011/21 Ross Street, Benowa

Price: $495,000

Agent: Jo Horton

2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 2 car parks

Getting a new apartment near the beach on the Gold Coast can set you back a pretty penny, so another option is to look at something a little further back for an affordable price.

Dawn in Benowa offers an affordable price point for a new apartment, but is mainly targeted at local downsizers so ocean views aren’t a requirement for the buyers.

“Most of the buyers come from the local area, so people want to live there,” Vantage Property’s Chris Litfin said. “There hasn’t been this sort of solution offered to a downsizer before.”

“Normally at Mermaid Beach and Surfers Paradise they’d be a lot more expensive.”

85 Old Burleigh Road, Surfers Paradise

Price: $485,000

Agent: Jordan Thams and Kyra Murphy

2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 car park

This apartment, across the road from the three-kilometre stretch of Surfers Paradise beachfront, would be a great spot to holiday.

The two-bedroom and two-bathroom unit is in the Biarritz resort, so there’s a pool and other facilities on site.

It’s not a ocean view room, but the beach is less than 100 metres away, which is a big plus.

1/106 Explorers Way, Highland Park

Price: $439,000 – $479,000

Agent: Jane Doogan

3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, 3 car parks

Highland Park is directly inland from Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise, a raised location looking out towards the hinterland and the beach.

The huge deck at 1/106 Explorers way can catch glimpses of the highrise towers of Surfers and LJ Hooker Nerang agent Jane Doogan said the home was generously large for the price.

“The Gold Coast isn’t just that strip and you can’t get anything on the beach for that sort of money with three bedrooms plus bathrooms with views,” she said.

About 10 minutes from the beachfront, she said the home was in a perfect location.

“It’s far enough away from the hustle and bustle and close enough for when you want it,” Ms Doogan said.

Price: $499,000

Agent: Jordan Thams and Kyra Murphy

2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 car park

Speaking of hustle and bustle, this unit is right in the thick of it. Across the road from the beach (which you can see from the balcony) and just over 500 metres from Cavill Avenue.

It’s another two-bed, two-bath unit for just under $500,000 which is a great price to get into the booming Gold Coast market.

456/99 Griffith Street, Coolangatta

Price: $350,000

Agent: Justin Schmith

1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, 1 car park

Just on the border of Queensland and New South Wales, Coolangatta is off the beaten path a little bit. The unit in Griffith Street is in Rainbow Bay, a great spot for holidaying with kids.

Because it’s further from Surfers, prices are a bit cheaper and $350,000 for a one-bedroom pad with ocean views, across the road from the beach, is a great deal.

There’s also several choices for pubs and restaurants within walking distance, just like in the more built-up parts of the Gold Coast.
