Auchenflower is one of Brisbane’s inner-western suburbs, and is known for its hilly landscape, narrow streets, and city views from the area’s best spots.
Another prominent feature of Auchenflower is its array of classic Queenslanders, with Brisbane City Council’s character overlays preserving the area’s charm.
Even the very rare new-builds are required to keep within the tin and timber theme.
Buyers looking to get into the high-end suburb will find plenty of refurbished Queenslanders, most of them boasting city views.

Birdwood Terrace is one of the most prestigious addresses in Auchenflower, and is lined with several multi-million dollar properties.
The home at 94 Birdwood Terrace looks set to continue that trend when it goes to auction.
Ray White Paddington agent Max Hadgelias said the home was built on top on the Terrace’s highest point.
“There’s views from all areas,” he said. “It’s a lovely split-level home, with a bedroom on each level with its own bathroom.”
The master suite on the top level even has a spa bath, with a view.

The home at 10 Markwell Street is a huge family home, with several outdoor and indoor living areas.
The rear deck backs directly onto the lawn, which is level with the home. There is a pool in the yard too, giving you plenty of options to keep kids entertained.
Traditional Queenslander features can be found throughout, but the home also has updated and modern aspects to keep things fresh.
Price: $2.2 million
Agent: Sacha Hennessy
5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 car spaces
Place West’s Sacha Hennessy is marketing 78 Annie Street, one of the rare new builds in the character suburb.
Ms Hennessy said the home was an example of how to build a more modern Queenslander. It features open-plan living areas that merge with the yard, as well as climate-controlling features like louvre windows to naturally cool the home.
“The way they’ve connected the living and dining with the grass and pool is really unique,” she said.
The five-bedroom home is another home built with family in mind, and Ms Hennessy was confident it would suit families in all stages of life.
“It’s the kind of home that would work for small children and adult children,” she said. “There’s a self-contained living area downstairs that could suit an older child.”

Just a bit further up Annie Street, another huge Queenslander is for sale. The home at 83 Annie Street also features some killer city views, from the dining room and kitchen.
The top level is dedicated to the living areas, while downstairs hosts four of the five bedrooms.
What was once an old, classic Queensland home has be transformed into a bigger, better and more modern version of the style. It comes complete with a modernised kitchen and bathrooms.

Agent: Andrew Degn
5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 car spaces
House number five on the list is also Queenslander number five (if you consider modern Queenslanders acceptable), making the top five homes on the market in the area all of the same style, going to show how seriously character is taken in the leafy suburb.
Place West’s Andrew Degn is selling 41 Jones Street, which should be a more affordable option. Mr Degn’s listing suggested the house could use a bit of a touch up.
It does lack the city views of some other houses on the list, but it has great views of the surrounding suburbs, which is typical of hilly Auchenflower.
