Lake Ginninderra, at the heart of Belconnen, has a number of playgrounds and picnic spots.

Postcode 2617, better known as Belconnen and the suburban heartland of Canberra, boasts a diverse list of offerings to suit the whole family.

While the hub of activity is centred around the Westfield shopping centre – a haven for retail and food outlets – there are also some hidden gems to be found.

The Belconnen Fresh Food Markets is a hit among locals and surrounding residents alike, and it supports a lively local community with an extensive range of local produce and artisan products.

Eat & drink:

54 Benjamin is your stop at any time of day, offering fresh and healthy options for a weekend brunch through to espresso martinis for a Friday night hangout.

Get your Italian fix at Bella Vista, where the mural of the Italian countryside perfectly sets the scene for a bowl of spaghetti marinara.

Head to McKellar and slurp a bowl of ramen at the quaint Japanese restaurant Raijin, where locals claim it is the best of its kind in Canberra.

The Lighthouse Pub overlooking Lake Ginninderra offers a great pub experience with live music, sport and trivia.

See & do:

There is plenty to do in the Belconnen community, with a reclining seat cinema, a number of gyms, yoga studios and a lakeside skate park that’s bustling well into the night.

Belconnen Fresh Food Markets is a great place to source fresh and local produce.  Stop by the bottle shop for a local drop and collect some artisanal cheese and prosciutto from one of the delis to take to the shores of Lake Ginninderra, full of picnic spots, playgrounds, a basketball court and waterfront strolls.

For a different kind of date night or fun family activity, try cooking school Foodish, which holds classes covering anything from handmade fresh pasta to sourdough.
