One of the world’s skinniest houses is for sale, no wider than the height of the average Aussie male.
Spanning six foot, 1738 Glick Ct NW, Washington, makes intriguing use of its narrow space.
It is advertised for $US625,000 ($AU962,426), and is 45-foot long and six-foot wide (at its thinnest point). Six foot is almost 183cm. The average Aussie bloke is 1.78cm.
The property has been profiled by world press, with the Washington Post detailing how the owners – local brothers – went through 24 architectural plans before city council rubberstamped the double-storey design of today.
They bought the land in 2021, and worked tirelessly to find a solution to building between two landways, on a limited plot.
“Welcome to The Glick House, where you’ll discover a well-crafted minimalist haven equipped with all the essential amenities,” the listing explains.
“Prepare to be astounded by the exquisite finishing touches that elevate every corner of this living space. The ingenious design optimizes every square inch, showcasing remarkable efficiency and intelligent use of space. It’s truly remarkable that this compact, approximately 600-square-foot home seamlessly accommodates a living room, spacious kitchen, bedroom, 1.5 baths, and even a deck.”
The house has windows on either side to flood it with natural light, near zero electricity bills thanks to solar panels, banks of timber flooring and a provincial, galley-style kitchen and breakfast bar seating for three.
Upstairs is the bedroom with robes and a luxurious, spa-inspired bathroom with shower and full laundry.
The interior of 600-square-foot is a tick more than 55 square metres. One bedroom apartments in Australia are commonly more than 50-square-metres plus and Aussie banks often do not loan for residences with interiors smaller than 50 square metres.
Glick House is in the trendy Shaw neighbourhood, which has craft cocktail and beer bars, restaurants and village shopping.
The agent handling the sale is Deirdre Thao Vo of Pearson Smith Realty.
