From the outside, this three-bedroom house in California’s Coachella Valley looks like any other family home.
Its simple white facade, neat concrete driveway and trimmed green lawn offer few hints at what lies inside.
But step through the front door, and you will find yourself in an extraordinary space that looks like a set from the Flintstones.
Labyrinthine pillars of faux stone wind throughout the house, creating a bewildering network of rocky passageways.
Tropical plants have been placed in the crevices to make the home look like a prehistoric jungle.
In May last year, the house sold to a new buyer after a six-month sales campaign.
It ended up fetching $US487,500 ($733,000), but not before a hefty price cut.
It’s on the market again. The listing by Sotheby’s International Realty advertised the house as a “cave home” with “loads of potential”.
“Owner/designer has installed a rock formation,” the listing said. “There’s even a cave-like wet bar!”
The cave theme was not the only creative touch added by the previous owners.
In the living room, a massive mural was added to the walls depicting bald eagles soaring over a mountain range.
Elsewhere, however, the home is surprisingly ordinary.
The main kitchen has a classic 1990s setup, with timber veneer cabinets and tiled benchtops.
The only hint of the Flintstones is in the knobbly grey serving hatch.
The house attracted attention on Reddit, where users had fun speculating about the property.
“This place rocks!” one commenter joked.
“I love that some people really go for what they like in their homes, but, man, does that make it hard to sell,” someone else observed.
If you want a touch of the Flintstones in Australia, there are plenty of options closer to home.
