A castle in the Irish countryside is listed for a bargain price…but here’s hoping it wont crumble.
Castle Donovan in the village of Drimoleague in County Cork has a price guide of €200,000 ($AU320,613), which is about a third of the Aussie median house price ($1,112,575).
It towers to 60 feet. Despite the damage, it miraculously still stands.
The listing reveals that according to tradition, the tower of the castle was “damaged by gunpowder by soldiers in the late 1650s”, resulting in “cracks in the masonry” and a hazardous structure.
The property underwent extensive conservation between 2001 and 2014 and is now recognised as a national monument.
David Busteed of Sherry Fitzgerald Brennan Busteed is seeking offers in excess of €200,000 ($AU320,613).
The listing reveals that the castle was built in 1560 and despite its unsafe nature is “built on very solid rock foundation”.
It commands attention at 60 feet tall and 26 feet wide.
The property once had a thick oak door, while the limestone gothic arch still remains at the entrance.
One corner of the castle collapsed in 1936, the listing states. However, the staircase has survived.
The property’s standout feature is by far its location with an idyllic mountain backdrop.
