Taking the expression ‘sitting on the throne’ to an extremely literal place, this $8.2 million mansion in the US state of California has a toilet stylised like a regal throne fit for a king.
Hewn from solid timber and expertly stained to a golden, mellow brown, the elaborate toilet even comes with armrests, for those more arduous of comfort breaks.
It appears the lavatory has also been fitted with an old-school flushing mechanism, enhancing the histrionics of the waste disposal device.
The bathroom itself has been designed for maximum theatricality too, with the walls crafted from moody, jagged stone bricks, and ornate light fixtures appearing to bathe the commode in an almost ethereal glow.
Like the staggering royal latrine, other parts of the 12 bedroom, 14 bathroom mansion are similarly styled to represent aristocratic classicism.
There’s a charming-looking art studio located in the home’s basement, an expansive dining hall with ancestral portraits and a sitting room festooned with ornate accoutrements such as a grand chandelier and antique chairs.
In an almost jarring juxtaposition, however, the rest of the residence takes a turn for the avant-garde, with the master suite presenting a particularly gauche aesthetic (the red mosaic mural and hot tub don’t do the room any favours).
Elsewhere in the home, you’ll find swathes of marble, a hair salon and even a genuine slide, that juts out of, presumably, one of the children’s bedrooms.
We’re not sure how one accesses the slide, but while looking for the entrance to the blueish, serpentined attraction, occupants can also admire the mansion’s home gym and pole-dancing studio, massive outdoor pool and lounge area and breathtaking kitchen.
For us, though, the mansion’s pièce de résistance will always be its simply majestic thunderdome.
