If there’s one certainty in property, it’s that buyers pay a premium to live by the sea.
Doesn’t matter where you are in the world, either – nine times out of 10, a beach house is going to set you back more than a similar home in suburbia.
But, surely there’s a limit to the crazy prices coastal abodes can demand, right?
Well, if you’re the vendor of this one-room, weathered beach shack in the seaside town of Santa Rosa Beach in Florida, the only price limit is the stratosphere.
$1.5 million ($US 1.095 million). That’s how much the seller of this rustic shoebox wants.
It’s an absurd amount of cash, and at this point, we wouldn’t blame you for performing your best “tell him he’s dreaming” impression and clicking on this link about Elon Musk’s latest property sale.
But, much as it pains us to admit it – this is an exceedingly cool beach shack, regardless of price.
Its rustic, overarching aesthetic is annoyingly charming and quaint, with the bright white interior and exterior paint scheme complemented by deliberately faded, chipped splashes of aqua green accents.
Entering through a vibrant red door, occupants are greeted to a studio-type living arrangement, with the bed dominating the tiny room and surrounded by an adorable kitchenette.
A pair of aqua green folding doors give way to an equally cute bathroom with an enticing-looking, free-standing tub, chequered black and white tiles and an attractive stained glass window.
Outside, there’s an external shower for when you return from the sandy shores of the nearby Seagrove Beach, as well as a very unique stainless steel stock tank splash pool and lounge area.
This shack’s real pièce de résistance, however, is the enviably large 1000-square-metre block that it finds itself on.
According to the listing, the prime piece of real estate is ripe for development and could easily accommodate additional dwellings.
Even with the sizeable blue-chip block and its sub-zero cool appearance, though, $1.5 million for a veritable shanty is a bitter, angular pill to swallow.
