A little flat listed for rent for less than $1000 per month has tongues wagging.
The bedsit’s floorplan is why so many property hunters have taken note.
In Lincoln, England, the £475 per month unit (about $AU912) has a shower smack bang next to the cooktop.
It comes furnished and is available for a long-term lease, in a city about three hours north of London.
“Featuring a kitchen area with cooker and fridge with freezer compartment, single bed, shower with shared wc,” the listing explains out of the layout.
“This property is conveniently located on Carholme Road, just a short walk from the city centre and close to the bars and restaurants on the Brayford.”
Home hunters were agog that the placement of amenities is allowed.
A Reddit thread dedicated to the jaw-dropping layout of the unit.
“This isn’t a studio, it’s a bedsit. I’ll never fathom how someone looks at that space and decides it’s not only ok to house a person in there but to charge them for the privilege,” one user said.
Another commented: “Reminds me of the old episode of Are You Being Served? when Mrs Slocombe temporarily lived on an empty floor of the store and they made a house for her with walls like that separating the spaces.”
Are You Being Served? was a cult hit TV series in the UK which ran through the 1970s until 1985, following the mishaps of retail workers and their clientele in a fictional London department store.
One thread follower was even more succinct. “That’s incredibly grim. Shared W/C. Delightful”.
The unit is in a converted mansion, with shared toilets and laundry facilities.
Only a single bed appears to fit in the living space, as demonstrated on the UK-based listing.
