This UK mansion could be yours for an $18.50 raffle ticket

June 4, 2018

A £2.3 million ($4.05 million)  UK mansion is up for grabs in an online competition where tickets cost $18.50.

The global house competition launched in Britain first, and is now open to Australians.

The Devon mansion is less than 320 kilometres from London, and only 20 minutes’ drive from Exeter.

Whoever wins the property doesn’t have to live in it, either. The winner is welcome to rent or sell it and reap the rewards.

The house isn’t the only thing awarded to the winner. The mansion comes with everything in it – the contents, furnishings, gym, indoor swimming pool, and a completely separate apartment.

Also included is a Rolls Royce, $88,000 cash, a gardener and housekeeper (paid) for a year, and the UK stamp duty tax paid. Even the cellar is fully-stocked.

More about the property

The fully secured property has electric gates, alarm systems and closed circuit television watching over its 10 acres of land.

There are three ponds, a three-hole golf course, a spring-fed well, a four-car garage and a self-contained apartment.

Inside the double entrance doors sits a large hall, drawing room, kitchen, library, study, breakfast room, and a terrace and barbecue area.

The basement downstairs houses the wine cellar as well as a utility room, a drying room and storage rooms.

The four ensuite bedrooms are found upstairs. The master suite also has its own sitting area, dressing room, and French doors opening to a balcony.

Entrants must pay $18.50 and then answer a multiple-choice question correctly to go in the draw to win.

The couple, who wanted to remain anonymous, said they would donate 20 per cent of the ticket money to charity.

“Throughout our careers, we have been raising money for charities and helping small companies and startups with finance and mentoring. We decided giving the house away through a competition was another great way to help,” they said.

Four dollars, or 20 per cent, of the ticket price goes to the following charities: Make a Wish UK, Demelza, British Red Cross, Global’s Make Some Noise, Help for Heroes, Elizabeth’s Legacy of Hope, Edna Adan Foundation, Balloons Devon, Marine Conservation Society, Over the Wall and Farms For City Children.

The couple said they also wanted to give someone the chance to become an instant millionaire because years ago, when they were first starting out in business, they were given a leg up by their first employer.

“It’s lovely to think that someone in New Zealand, Australia, India, Brazil, South Africa, Dubai, Indonesia, China, Canada, Mexico or Japan could win what is a very British mansion in one of the most beautiful parts of England.”

The competition, which runs till November 28, 2018, has a limit of one million tickets. There are also nine runner-up prizes, worth almost $19,000 each.
