There’s some relief in sight for house buyers with the pace of price growth continuing to slow in most capital cities.
However, purchasers with their eyes set on Perth or Brisbane will have to stomach skyrocketing prices, based on data obtained from Domain’s House Price Report for the June 2024 quarter.
“What we have is very much a multi-speed market across our capital cities,” Domain’s Chief of Research and Economics, Dr Nicola Powell, says.
“But while price rises in most capital cities are losing momentum, in Perth and Brisbane, they’re doubling. Perth is having another heyday, reminiscent of the mining boom, and Queensland is still seen as a strong lifestyle location.”
House prices have again hit record highs nationally, not only in Perth and Brisbane, but also in Sydney and Adelaide. Melbourne and Canberra’s housing markets have improved after struggling to recover. Meanwhile, Darwin flatlined, while Hobart’s house prices declined.
Here’s is a snapshot of where you can purchase a home in your capital city for under the median house price.
