While most of Canberra’s Willemsen-designed properties were built in the 1970s, they’ve got a timeless appeal.

This single-level townhouse boasts a north-facing, free-flowing design that would feel at home in a new-build.

Nanette lived in the three-bedroom property for 35 years and her daughter, Sue Barlin, says she made very few changes to the home over the years.

“It was just the general maintenance: painting, carpeting, different furniture – she just had it looking very stylish and always maintained it well,” Barlin says.

As it’s in almost original condition, it provides scope for renovators to leave their own mark, but the new owners could move in and live comfortably without lifting a finger.

The private courtyard to the front and back were among Nanette’s favourite features and the home offered plenty of space for large family gatherings.

Raked ceilings, large windows and the north-facing aspect create an inviting ambience and keep the home comfortable in all seasons.

“It gets the full sun in the middle of winter, it’s a lovely, winter cosy house,” Barlin says.
