When shopping for a New York apartment in the prestige end of the market, what’s an extra couple of million dollars over reserve?
Not much, apparently, for comedian Tina Fey and husband Jeff Richmond.
The comedian and her composer husband recently inked a $US9.51 million ($13.65 million) deal for an Upper West Side apartment – a blistering $2 million more than the original asking price of $7.5 million.
The apartment was previously owned by 1950s singer and actor Harry Belafonte, most famous for “The Banana Boat” song, before he sold it in 2005 for $5.178 million.
But despite the crooner formally calling the apartment home, that is not why Mean Girls writer forked out the higher price for the West End Avenue address. Fey and Richmond actually own the apartment directly below their new one, which they purchased in 2009 for $3.4 million.
And while it might seem strange that the pair would purchase an almost identical property just above their current home, there are reports the parents of two plan to join the apartments to create a larger condo.
So what does just shy of $10 million score you on the Upper West Side? A beautifully renovated ten room apartment featuring four bedrooms (the master suite has an impressive walk in robe), four and a half bathrooms with marble baths, a private elevator, open plan kitchen and family area, dining room and two fire places.
The building is fully serviced with a 24 hour doorman – security is obviously a must for anyone as popular as Fey, whose recent movie Sisters has just been released in Australia.
According to the listing, the apartment also comes complete with 22 brand new windows, some of which boast a slight view of the Hudson River.
