An inner-city unit in Clerkenwell, London has bemused onlookers after being listed for rent at a mind-boggling price.
The one-bedroom apartment is listed on Rightmove for £249,000 per month, or £57,577 per week. In Australian currency, this equals a whopping $489,000 per month, or $113,000 per week.
It’s an insane price, even for an expensive pocket of London. Online commenters on the Reddit thread r/SpottedonRightmove quickly pointed out that the price was likely a typo.
They theorise that the listing agency accidentally added a couple of zeroes to the end of the monthly rent, bringing the real figure down to £2,490 ($AU4,887) per month.
This hypothesis is supported by the fact that other apartments in the block are being leased in the low-£2,000s range.
But even with the over $100,000 reduction, commenters remained baffled by the high price the unit was asking.
The one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment is just 43 square metres in size, and has no balcony.
There are two windows in the property, one in the living room and one in the bedroom.
A tiny kitchenette with no dishwasher spans the back wall.
However, despite its small size, the flat benefits from a central location close to cafés, bars, and workspaces. Major London landmarks like the British Museum and St Paul’s Cathedral are a short bike ride away from the flat.
