This desert-dwelling igloo at 16 Whitfield Street, Lancelin, is for sale.

In the fishing and holiday town of Lancelin, about 1½ hour’s drive north of Perth, an unusual property has come onto the market.

A few blocks to the water and about an hour from the unique Pinnacles Desert, 16 Whitfield Street, comes with awnings and airconditioning, and is set up and ready to go as a holiday home or weekend getaway spot.

It is also shaped like a giant boob.

The shape was thought up as a gimmick, and has earned the property a variety of nicknames including the “booby house”, “tit house” and “igloo house”.

Originally built by brothers working the construction industry, the igloo-shaped house was made of iron, cement, chicken wire and other materials in 1978.

Somewhat of a local landmark, it is no longer owned by the original builders and is currently painted blue, but at one point was off-white with a red tip. It has been a popular spot for both short and long-term rentals, with agent Denise Howe reporting that several travellers have called in to say what “a great time they had when they stayed there”.

The home is similar to the dome-style buildings that pop up in Texas, or the igloo-shaped roadhouse closer to home in Ballan, Victoria.

It has been on the market since March and has had several inquiries so far. It is listed for $350,000 through Terri Paterson Real Estate.
