Labor staffer Sabina Husic has cashed in on Sydney’s property boom following her recent move to Melbourne, selling her Surry Hills terrace for about $2.3 million – more than 40 per cent more than she paid for it two years ago.
Ms Husic bought the three-level Victorian terrace in June 2019 when she took up the job as deputy chief of staff to federal Labor leader Anthony Albanese, paying $1.6 million.
Ms Husic, the sister of federal Labor MP Ed Husic, resigned from the federal Opposition Leader’s office last November and has since been appointed as media director to Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews.
Records show Ms Husic listed the Surry Hills terrace with BresicWhitney’s Melinda Antella and Jack Parry following her move to Melbourne and separation from former husband Nick Martin, deputy chief executive of The Fred Hollows Foundation.
The exact sale price remains undisclosed, but it carried an initial guide of $1.9 million that was soon raised to $2 million, and local sources say it sold for close to $2.3 million.
Ms Husic is no stranger to the Victorian Premier’s media team, having previously worked there following Mr Andrews’ 2014 election win. She also worked with former NSW opposition leader Luke Foley.
Ms Husic’s move comes after a slew of house sales by high-profile Labor politicians, most notably the Marrickville investment property owned by Mr Albanese, which sold last week for $2.35 million.
In May, NSW Labor opposition leader Chris Minns sold his Federation semi on the San Souci waterfront after listing it with a price guide of $1.95 million to $2.145 million, given plans to move into his Kogarah electorate.
And Labor’s state member for Bankstown Tania Mihailuk and her husband, Canterbury-Bankstown councillor Alex Kuskoff, bought a Bellevue Hill investment house for about $4 million in June.
