Welcome to the Sovereign Islands, the ultra exclusive community in a glamorous Gold Coast suburb

The streets are lined with palm trees and ornate street lights and the roads are paved in brick. Residents sleep easy thanks to 24/7 security, which extends to friendly security guards who will let you know if you’ve left your garage door ajar.

But Sovereign Islands‘ biggest drawcard would have to be its direct ocean access for all manner of watercraft.

Boatie paradise

In this gated community in Paradise Point, nearly every property has deep water frontage and an outlook worthy of the multimillion-dollar price tags.

To the south, residents have uninterrupted views of the Surfers Paradise skyline and to the east, magnificent views over South Stradbroke Island, which also provides a buffer from weather extremes.

Then there’s the trump card: estuary waterways offering some of the best fishing and sight-seeing in the country.

“We have 20,000 homes on canals [in the Gold Coast], but only one estate is on Broadwater,” says Ray White Sovereign Islands agent Edin Kara. “Sovereign Islands offers the ultimate in privacy with a park at the front and offers a
sense of not having neighbours at all.”

Kara says homes on the island are mostly owner-occupied and many sprawl across two or three blocks. Last year a record price was set with the sale of Grande Vista for $11.05 million. Set on 2103 square metres with a 55-metre
water frontage, this Sir Lancelot Close property adjoins King Arthurs Park and claims one of the best positions on Sovereign Islands.

Paul Vertullo has lived on the islands for 20 years. The retired founder of Professionals Vertullo Real Estate says when blocks on the islands were launched on the market they were priced around $250,000. Today there’s little on offer under $2 million.

Vertullo says he moved onto the islands for the lifestyle.

“Paradise Point is one of the most exclusive suburbs on the Gold Coast,” he says. “We were looking for a nice, secure place to live and Sovereign Islands offered a safe, gated community. It’s also very close to the Paradise Point shopping village which is just over the bridge.”

Home to politicians, bankers, celebrities and international business tycoons, Sovereign Islands is affectionately known as a “millionaire’s playground” and, with vacant lots yet to be developed, there’s still room for newcomers
keen to build their very own mega-mansion.
