'We're hoping to take it home with us': Matt and El'ise confident they won't need the golden gnome for the final reveal of The Block 2019

Despite the tears shed across this season, Matt and El’ise appeared all smiles one week out from the auction of The Block 2019. So confident in fact, the couple are hoping to take their bonus point golden gnome home to the kids instead of using it on the rooftop terrace reveal come Sunday.

“We’re hoping not, to be honest,” Matt told Your Domain when asked if they were planning on using it.  “We think we’ve produced a great area this week. Obviously with the rooftop, the garage, the kitchen. We’re hoping that we don’t have to use it, but if we have to, we will.”

“We worked so hard to get the gnome, and the kids are so attached to it. So to give it up – it’s going to be hard. We’re really hoping to take it home with us,” El’ise added.

Reflecting back on their time on the show, the Perth pair admitted they were surprised by the wild ride of the experience, but said they loved every minute of it.

“We had the time of our life. It’s funny, you watch it back and you go: were we upset, did we enjoy it? But we had an absolute blast,” said El’ise.

“All these moments we are watching back on now, we actually get to see it because we’re not sleep deprived. Clearly there’s no tears in my eyes when I’m watching it back, so can now see it for what it really is, which is nice.”

Through the tears there was still plenty of fun for the couple, including the odd bit of nudity in house four.

“It’s called ‘El’ise-isms between all the cast and crew,” El’ise said of her finest moments on the show.

Heading into the final room reveal of the 2019 season, Matt and El’ise say their unique selling point is their home’s quality.

“We have the best builder on site. I think that the quality of our build is ten times anyone else’s. Fingers crossed we can bring it over the line.” said El’ise.
