The biggest lotto jackpot in Australian history could go off on Thursday night and, while the odds of winning it are infinitesimally small, the prize money from the Powerball draw in full would buy you some fairly substantial chunks of real estate.
And unlike in some other countries, lottery winnings in Australia are not taxed – so you’ve got the full $150 million to buy what would presumably be the absolutely enormous home of your dreams.
Obviously this is more of a wish list than serious investment options but, nonetheless, here are some possibilities.
This 177-hectare mountain property “affords a life without compromise”, according to its listing. It’s close to the Beaver Creek Ski Resort and the Vail Mountain Club and backs on to a huge expanse of wilderness. For those looking to jet on in, never fear, you can park it at the nearby Eagle Airport.

There’s also a wild-west themed guest suite if your mates want to stay over – or, if it’s the entire extended family, three fully furnished guesthouses and a historic cabin, plus an “authentic replica of the Silver Dollar Saloon” and your very own ice cream parlour.
When you get sick of admiring the entry bridge that reportedly cost $US1 million, you can jump on a snowmobile (there are 12 included in the sale) or maybe go fishing — there’s a pond stocked with trout — take advantage of the soccer field, play a spot of tennis, or have a crack at the five-storey climbing wall.
Want to try life on the lake in Switzerland? The impressive spread includes five buildings, landscaped gardens, and a private lagoon which extends to some private lakeside beachfront.
