If you’re a fan of the television series Grand Designs, 53 Knox Street in Clovelly may look familiar. It featured on the program in 2010, and was aptly described as a “unique, impeccably put together contemporary space”.

One of Australia’s first luxury prefabricated homes, it was designed by Pleysier Perkins and comprises modules constructed by Prebuilt, a Melbourne-based building company, which were then transported to Sydney and crane-lifted into place by local builders One Up.

Now, it’s been listed on the market with a price guide of $6 million.

The box-like shapes that make up the exterior of the zinc and timber-clad home are perhaps the only obvious nod to its factory beginnings. Inside, the property is a haven for designer fixtures and finishes.

There is a lot of bespoke joinery, from the shelving in the home office to the hat and coat rack left of the foyer and a substantial walk-in wardrobe in the master bedroom.

The fancy lighting comes from Euroluce, Mondoluce and JSB lighting, and there’s a suspended Focus fireplace that extends up a double-height feature tile wall in the living room.

The kitchen features both marble and stainless steel benchtops and comes with two integrated Miele ovens and a Highlands gas cooktop, and there’s a temperature-controlled wine cellar accessed via the double garage.

Outside, you can choose between a seat on the Vergola-covered terrace or a perch on the upper-level deck, where you’ll be treated to ocean views.

The view expands upstairs in the master bedroom and en suite, where a timber-clad bath has been positioned to make the most of the outlook.

All the bedrooms have built-in storage, and a generous landing provides space for a study nook.

Landscaping by Secret Gardens of Sydney softens the hard surfaces and includes a burst of orange trumpet creeper at the front entrance and a glossy collection of magnolias around the pool.

And when you crave sand and surf, it’s only one kilometre to a beach – either Clovelly or Coogee – where you’ll also find a host of cafes and restaurants.

Belle Property’s Daniel Gillespie, who will take the property to auction on August 12, says the house is unique. “[It] stands out from the rest with its stunning architecture, interiors and high-end finishes. It truly is a Grand Design.”
