If life and all its pressures are getting you down right now, you would be forgiven for wanting to run away to an island.
Luckily for you, there are six private island properties for sale right now across Australia which range in price from $750,000 to $6.9 million.
Wedge Island
This 9.3 hectare island located one kilometre from the famed Great Keppel Island in Queensland could be yours.
If you are craving private, sandy beaches and somewhere to take part in a variety of water sports or fishing, Wedge Island is for you.
The long-leasehold island located five kilometres from the mainland in Central Queensland is for sale for $2.4 million.
It is opposite the thriving mainland coastal town of Emu Park and is a short boat ride to shops and facilities.
The island comes with a bungalow that can accommodate two people, a large shed that can house eight people, kitchen, storage huts, bio-toilet with bidet and shower, gas hot water system, all-weather mooring, new pontoon, 15,000-litre rainwater tanks and a concrete driveway.
The island reportedly last changed hands in 2019 for $500,000.
“The [new] owner has created the magic on the island ready for new owners, who can take the island to the next level by building their island getaway large home,” the listing says.
Expressions of interest are being sought for around $2.4 million.
Quoin Island
While not a whole island, a 4.85-hectare section of Quoin Island, five kilometres off the coast of Gladstone, Queensland, is for sale for $1.95 million.
Quoin Island has its own marina and can be accessed via a passenger and vehicle ferry twice a day.
A north-facing portion of land, which represents about one-third of the freehold island, is for sale.
The absolute beachfront property houses two stone buildings that are in need of repair.
It is ripe for redevelopment or even subdivision, subject to council approval.
The island houses a disused resort and a turtle rehabilitation centre, as well as several other homes.
With the owners keen to sell, all reasonable offers will be considered.
Clairview Island
The largest and most expensive offering is Clairview Island, a 267-hectare island located halfway between Mackay and Rockhampton.
And better yet, it comes with its own Cessna aircraft, which can land on one of the island’s two runways.
A listing for the property says the “extremely rare freehold island” includes five separate titles and approval to build up to 10 homes.
The “totally private island” features a seven-kilometre sandy beach that can be enjoyed all year round.
It offers excellent fishing from the large estuary that runs between the island and the mainland, while the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is on its doorstep.
The current owner discovered the island during regular flights from Caboolture to the Whitsundays.
He eventually purchased the island, which he has used as a cattle property and fishing retreat.
A cosy beach cottage currently offers the only accommodation but there is approval to build five new homes, each with a caretaker’s residence.
The island’s freehold status means there is more flexibility for development and the five separate titles means they could be sold off.
Access to the island is via boat, light aircraft or helicopter, with Mackay just 10-minutes away by plane.
A Cessna 206 plane, two light aircraft runways, aircraft hangar for two planes and farm equipment are included in the sale.
The island is for sale for $6.9 million. Personal inspections can be arranged.
Ninth Island
If you are after a cooler island escape, Ninth Island in Tasmania could be yours for just over $2 million.
The freehold 16-hectare island is located 12 kilometres off the coast of Bridport, in Tasmania’s north, and is accessible by boat or helicopter.
“This island would suit a magnificent home built on one of its foreshore locations,” the listing says.
“There are also opportunities to build your own personal pontoon or jetty for your private vessel.
“Many varieties of birds and sea life surround this island.”
Ram Island
Ram Island is a small island located in the estuary of Little Swansport on Tasmania’s east coast.
Measuring 26 hectares, it was one of just 11 privately owned islands in Tassie, and offers 360-degree views of the surrounding area.
The island offers the feeling of seclusion while remaining close to conveniences which can be accessed via barge from its own private jetty.
The island features a spectacular home and is for sale with a price guide of more than $4.95 million.
Little Dog Island
Still in Tasmania, you will find Little Dog Island, located in Bass Strait, near Flinders Island.
The island is just a 15-minute boat ride from Flinders Island and includes two picturesque beaches.
There are two additional freehold titles and Crown Land also on the island.
The 17-hectare offering for sale includes an area that has been set up for camping, which includes two cedar huts, a connecting deck and a composting toilet.
If camping isn’t your thing, build your dream island getaway, subject to council approval.
Expressions of interest are being sought, with the owner reportedly hoping to fetch about $750,000.
