Who was The Block's mystery bidder in all white who bought House 3, then left in a chopper to go to Derby Day?

Kristy and Brett may be devastated by their auction result, but the $3.035 million deal was a massive win for the buyers of Charming Street’s only corner-block property, who immediately went on to celebrate at the races – via helicopter.

Dr Fady Tossoun and wife Amy Tossoun, who own and run a dental practice in Richmond, can be revealed as the mystery buyers behind what agents labelled on the day as “the biggest bargain” from The Block 2023.

The couple are Brighton locals – the only local buyers who came out on top at Saturday’s auctions – and have three children.

They have bought the home as an investment property and it is understood they were drawn to its massive depreciation schedule, which BMT Tax Depreciation averaged at around $4,630,874.

Only Amy Tossoun stood in the auction crowd gathered on the deck overlooking House 3’s front yard. Her husband, Fady, watched from inside the media and agent war-room, which was hidden from the public inside Brett and Kristy’s garage.

Dressed in all white, she stood smiling but determined beside her buyer’s advocate, Marty Fox snr (uncle to real estate agent and The Block 2023 judge Marty Fox) of Whitefox Real Estate.

The auction of House 3 followed the massive windfalls made by Steph and Gian of House 4 and Eliza and Liberty of House 5. Steph and Gian banked a $1.65 million profit and Eliza and Liberty made $1.05 million.

But that momentum did not continue into House 3 and the opening bid on Kristy and Brett’s house came in $220,000 short of their reserve.

What followed was a two-horse race between buyer’s agent Frank Valentic and Fox, and the scene bore a far closer resemblance to the kind of auctions that are held across Australia every weekend, with pair duking it out in small(er) increments.

It stalled, then started again, then stalled, then started again, and was by far the longest and most tense of the auctions as Fox kept returning with a bid the minute Valentic put his paddle up.

The agent and auctioneer for House 3, Sam Inan, told the crowd the the property was likely to command $2200 to $2400 in rent per week, and said “you can’t build anything like this” in Hampton East for anywhere near the price.

Eventually, Valentic, who had been back and forth with a buyer on the phone, said he was out, and the hammer fell at $3.035 million, netting Kristy and Brett just $65,000 profit.

While the Adelaide couple were left shocked and distraught by their comparatively meagre result, inside House 3, the Tossouns celebrated and Dr Toussan was seen shouting with joy and hugging friends around him.

The couple were pictured posing in front of the “sold” sign afterwards with Fox snr, as well as judge Marty Fox, before they quickly left to get in a helicopter.

Marty Fox told Domain earlier that the couple were leaving in a chopper to get to the Derby Day races, and Amy’s Instagram shows them celebrating trackside later in the afternoon.
