If you want an insight into why Mosman Park attracts so many of Perth’s high-flyers, slip on your walking shoes and head out to the walking and cycling path that hugs the Swan River and connects Peppermint Grove to the north to Fremantle in the south.

The path wends its way through tracts of waterfront parkland, skirts the golf club and passes impressive mansions commanding some of the city’s top prices.

Best of both worlds

Mosman Park is not only a favourite with boaties who access its many piers but with those seeking sand and surf, with the suburb crossing the Stirling Highway and laying claim to one of the city’s favourite dog-friendly beaches.

“Lying between the Swan River and the Indian Ocean, it gets the best of both water features,” says Ray White Cottesloe Mosman Park agent Jody Fewster. “You’re within walking distance of Leighton and South Cottesloe beaches, there are water activities on the river and great parks for the kids.”

Fewster raised her children in Mosman Park and says the local schools have long been a drawcard.

You’ll find girls’ schools Iona Presentation College and St Hilda’s Anglican within the suburb’s boundaries and Christ Church Grammar School, Scotch College, Presbyterian Ladies’ College and Methodist Ladies’ College in the neighbouring suburbs.

Tech businessman Damian Cook and his wife Melissa, founder of luxury sportswear business giroud.com.au, decided to move to Mosman Park before starting a family. Fifteen years on, they remain firm fans of the area.

The vendors of our feature property, the Cook family of five has just moved to a larger home in the same street.

“Mosman Park is close to all the good schools and it’s in a unique position on the river and by the ocean at the same time – we love that aspect of it,” Damian says.

“We love the water and from our point of view that was probably the biggest drawcard. Our boat is moored down the road and our standard pastime at the moment is a day trip to Rottnest.”

Dining delight

When it comes to eating out, residents head to Glyde Street where Fewster’s favourites include Tsunami Japanese, Sampson’s Paddock, Nasi Lamek Korner for Indonesian cuisine and Rodney’s Bar for great snack food and live music.

The Cooks frequent the Freshwater Cafe next door in Peppermint Grove which spills out to Keanes Point Reserve and Freshwater Bay and they also like popping down to Fremantle, a 10-minute drive south.
