It’s not what every teenager is doing but when you’re Willow Smith, there’s probably not much unusual about treating yourself to a USD$3.1 million ($4.3m AUD) Malibu home.
The American singer-actor, daughter to Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith, rose to fame at the age of seven when she appeared in the film I Am Legend alongside her father, before launching her music career at the tender age of 10 with the hit single Whip My Hair.
She has recorded three studio albums since then and now, aged just 19, she’s splashed out on her own LA digs.
Variety describes her property as a “very adult starter home” – a contemporary hillside house on a private street with stunning water views over the Pacific Ocean.
It was reportedly an off-market purchase and while $3.1 million is no average spend for a teenager, it’s considered fairly modest as far as Malibu homes go.
Built in 2011, it was designed to meet modern energy-efficiency standards and features high-end appliances, solar power, a two-car garage with Tesla charging capability and a grey water recycling system.
Its eco credentials haven’t come at a cost to the aesthetics, though. Inside, the four-bedroom, four-bathroom house features floor-to-ceiling windows to make the most of the view, open-plan living spaces with hardwood flooring, and a three-sided fireplace to warm the formal dining area and the eat-in kitchen.
Outside, the house features a concrete patio for dining and a raised timber deck with ocean and mountain views.
Smith is not new to the area, Variety reports, having been raised at her parents’ famously colossal mega-compound that lies in the remote mountains between Calabasas and Malibu, where they continue to reside.
Her older brother Jaden lives in the celebrity gated community of Hidden Hills, in an estate that their parents have owned for more than 17 years.
