On a beach in Ness Point, England – the first place in Britain to see the sunrise – plans are in the works to build a unique luxury getaway.
The sleep retreat aims to be a getaway where tired guests can reset their internal clock and learn to wake up with the sun.
Right now, 39.8 per cent of Australians get inadequate sleep, according to the Sleep Health Foundation.
In Britain, the problem is even more dire, with the average adult getting less than one hour of sunlight each day during the dark winter months.
The sleep retreat aims to help reverse this trend. Called ‘Breaking Dawn’, it will consist of four one-bedroom pods overlooking the sea.
Artist impressions reveal sleek, minimalist glass cabins with large windows capturing 270-degree views over the dunes and water.
Each pod will cost a staggering £295 a night to rent ($596), Luxury Property News reports.
It’s a lot to pay for one night in a cabin, but the creators of the concept – mattress company Simba – claim the pods will “supercharge your slumber”.
“The suites are crafted to synchronise with the wake-sleep cycle,” the company explains. “As dawn breaks, soft streams of natural light gradually flood the room, gently adjusting your circadian rhythm and ensuring you wake refreshed, recharged, and ready to take on the day.”
Automated blinds will be timed to gradually rise with the sun, allowing guests to wake up naturally.
The glass cabins will have flooring “infused with natural scents like lavender and peppermint” to induce sleep in guests.
There will also be “curated soundscapes” at sleep-friendly frequencies to create a calming auditory backdrop.
If that wasn’t enough, the retreat even promises to provide a “scientifically crafted menu designed to enhance sleep”, including melatonin-rich smoothies.
The Breaking Dawn retreat is slated to open in July 2025 during the UK summer, subject to council approval.
