Even after a $40,000 price discount, there are no takers for an apartment with the world’s weirdest bed.

The blue velveteen pod is suspended from the ceiling, and contains a double mattress.

The apartment in one of England’s major cities was first listed in October 2023. As of December, it is still for sale, asking £210,000 ($AU424,000). This represents a price cut of £20,000, on when the listing debuted.

In the listing, handled by UK agency Living Spaces and listed on portal Rightmove, the sleeping situation is described as a “bespoke bed suspended from ceiling”.

There is no elaboration on why a traditional bed and base was eschewed for the space-age, enclosed mattress.

The mattress is set in a curved timber husk, with metal reinforcements, connected to a steel beam on the ceiling.

The apartment is in the suburb of Akenside Hill in the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Aside from the suspended bed is a Manhattan-studio style, open layout of kitchen and dining zone, with a raised living space.

The highly unusual bedroom zone does include some common flourishes, including build-in wardrobes.describes
