For just $175,000, you can enter the Australian property market – and no, that’s not the deposit.
Getting into the property market for an affordable price is possible if you know where to look and what to invest in.
For example, a rare beach box in Mount Martha Melbourne starts at $175,000. Beach boxes are little beachside sheds that offer a little space to call your own on the beach. However, much like most sheds, these properties come with no electricity or running water, and it’s also prohibited to sleep overnight or reside in these beachside shacks.
Beach boxes don’t get put on the market too often, says listing agent Alex Corradi of Danckert Real Estate.
“The owner is a builder, so he’s put in the proper infrastructure so that it is one of the more solid sheds. Over the years, with certain storms, there’s been some that you know don’t fare as well, but they built quality shed, and it is in a good spot,“ he says.
You can use the beach box year-round, but renting it out during the summer would bring in extra cash.
Alternatively, you can purchase two car spaces for $170,000 in Potts Point, NSW. You might want to buy these spots if you work in the city or rent them out to make some extra cash. Just like housing, these car spots will eventually increase in value and can be sold later to make a profit.
It’s just a few minutes walk from Kings Cross, making it a high-demand area.
There is also the option to purchase just one car space for $88,000.
If you’re searching for something to live in, this studio apartment in Ultimo only costs $165,000. It’s close to many of the major Sydney universities, and despite only having 25 square metres of space, it uses verticle space, and there are stairs up to the loft-like bedroom.
It comes furnished with a bed, wardrobe, TV, table, and lounge. It’s located in the building across from the Broadway Shopping Centre, which makes it conveniently close to the shops and necessities.
It’s a great property for students or an investor who wants to rent out the studio for students.
If 25 square metres of living space is too small, an alternative is this $140,000 Tasmanian house on 253 square metres of land.
It is located in the mining town of Rosebery and is currently rented out for $165 a week, making it a prime investment opportunity.
The property has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and an open-plan living and kitchen area.
